Volvo Trucks and FedEx Successfully Demonstrate Truck Platooning
Imagine, Trucks following each other even closer than they do today. This should be listed under the “displaced humans section” of our site. More and more we see the movie Wall-E come to life. Where less humans are needed and we are fat and happy in our scooters.
The Volvo site mentions 5.9GHZ link between trucks. So my question is, what about Jamming? Any close RF can be jammed via drone or drive by mischief. Even spread spectrum can be jammed link. So after jamming, the truck goes full autonom? Coming to a stop in the middle of the highway?
I won’t trust these things until they put a rope between trucks. Why not just put down a damn encoded yellow line that people can’t spoof. Then I stay on it and each segment of road is certified to be intact. If an inch of it gets degraded, no one can use it until its fixed.
As my wise grandma in law says, we have to get all these trucks off the road and back on railways like this. She is pretty wise. At age 70, she started hiking and has hiked all over the world…
For that matter, long haul trucks should be forbidden to operate East West near any viable train alternative. This would free up for example I-40 E/W for other useful purposes, like getting my jet skiis to Pickwick lake!… (actually, I don’t have any water craft.. Unfortunately..)
There are many Corporations trying to monetize OUR roads. We have to fight back, not just wait to fight a truck death with Morgan and Morgan.
We look to AAA, or NHTSB to watch us citizens. They do a good job, but I don’t hear them doing much on the Waymo deaths link or upcoming truck-trains like this. They are old businesses and the Uber era might be out of their reach. My favorite is the Million Women Movement link. And I have my new movement called, “No Router 6-8pm”. Ask me about it below…
