Uber runs over Elaine Herzberg
Yes, Uber finally did the deed. It killed someone where a human driver probably wouldn’t have. What is to be seen is the dash cam which you know Uber records, but no one has seen yet. This happened in Arizona.
The autonomous vehicle regulatory free-for-all must end.
Uber has been using our roads as a laboratory. We all know that a human in this driving situation would have probably slowed down. You know, like when you are near a fairgrounds and your spidey sense tells you to prepare for a quick stop. Does Uber AI have that spidey machine learning?
My guess is that the driver will take the fall. Rafael Vasquez, a 44-year-old test driver from Uber, was behind the wheel of the Volvo XC90 SUV at the time, the police said.
My guess is that Uboogle has their own insurance for their test drivers. (uber, google). So what will be seen is how many kids from Elaines’s estate showup to collect. It would make a great jury case, debating whether the car is indeed smarter than Rafael who is no doubt sequestered in Tijuana by now.
There are other automous tests going on from the Big 3 auto manufacturers and those in Europe as well. This will be a big week of announcements from them as to their response to this accident.
Should automous cars have a forward beeper?
Ambulances have a forward beeper, so why not Automous cars? This would alert the public that its not business as usual driving down the street and they better grab the curb or prepare to jump, cause a $6 taxi uber is heading their way.
My guess is that near misses are not reported, but for the spring of 2018, they will be highlighted. We just need an acronym for this, like
“I was almost ewebd”.
